An update from Chair of The Greig Hall Working Group, 27th July 2022
Apologies for the lack up updates on here recently, but we have had our heads down working hard to make significant progress on the Hall refurbishment. I would like to thank our volunteers for the huge effort put in, and we are now in the position of:
- Electrics. The old wiring has largely been replaced with only a few areas remaining to complete.
- Hot water. The heating and hot water systems (both in the toilets and green room) are largely complete.
- Roofs. They are fully weatherproofed and repaired where needed.
- Ceilings. Insulation has now been installed bringing it up to modern standards. New LED lights have been fitted and the air conditioning cassette units installed. (The air con will be commissioned later)
- Walls. The walls have been insulated and plastered (see photo). The next stage will be to paint them (anyone handy with the paint brush?)
- Floors. The floors still have their protective covering and which will be removed when the main works have been completed. At some stage the floors will need repairing, cleaning, possibly sanding. We will assess this later on however we do not have the budget to complete this yet.
- Kitchen. Needs a good clean and painting. New equipment to be brought in and installed.
- Doors. Not the most exciting things to talk about but high security doors outside have been fitted and new fire doors inside too.
- CCTV. A new CCTV system has been installed.
- Alarm system. A new intruder and fire alarm system has been installed.
- Outside. Some gardening needs to take place to stop the weeds growing!. You may have seen that a number of shrubs have been removed and will need replacing. The exterior brickwork will be cleaned in the next few weeks to make the hall look brand new!
- Fencing. Due to some anti social behaviour we have had to install some fencing to prevent access to the roof. This is to prevent damage and as importantly injury. More may be required.
As you can see, we have been busy! A huge thanks to everyone who has helped so far. There is a list of companies on the web site who have helped us in our quest.
As you can imagine, none of this would have been possible without our fantastic volunteers. It is you who make the difference. There is still more to do in the hall but now we need to look forward. In February next year we will be holding the first annual general meeting. We have a number of trustees, however the intention is to rotate trustees so that we bring new skills to the hall. Therefore we are looking for members of the public who want to be part of this exciting enterprise. That can be people with necessary skills to help run a hall or simply people with loads of enthusiasm. If you feel you would like to contribute then please look at our volunteer page
Finally we will be holding a few fundraising events in the hall this year to try out the systems prior to main events. Sort of stress testing the hall. If you can come to one of these events we would value your feedback on how we can make improvements.
