An update from Chair of The Greig Hall Working Group, 24th Dec 2021

The Christmas Fayre on the 4th December was a huge success and thank you to the hundreds of people who came along to see us. I’m delighted to say that we raised over £2,000 for the restoration fund, and I hope you had the opportunity to look inside and see what we are doing. Although the hall is still looking a little neglected, we tidied it up and tried to give it a Christmas feel for the day.

There was an excellent turnout for the Fayre which gave everyone an opportunity to come and have a look. To put on an event like this needs help and support and this is where the community really came together. I sincerely wish to thank our enthusiastic volunteers who made it happen.

The hall was full of vendors selling an amazing range of gifts – feedback from some stallholders said it was their best ever event. Santa handed out many presents to the children and hot and tasty food was consumed. There was an excellent raffle with super prizes, and incredible line up of entertainment, and we even had the Court Leet, Morris Men and the Fire Brigade there. I have a feeling that there will be another similar event next year.

I also wish to thank Shakespeare’s England for their support via the Welcome Back Fund. This funding allowed us to really promote the Fayre and make it a fun day out for everyone. They have also made a video of the whole event and you can watch it below. Do please have a look and pass it onto friends.

As for what 2022 brings next for the hall, the Monday after the Fayre saw restoration work recommence with some of the ceilings coming down to install insulation and prepare for new lighting. Our next big item is a new heating system to allow us to run the hall all year long. We are still hopeful of getting the hall open in the spring and look forward to seeing you there for the grand opening. We will keep you informed as the project progresses.

I wish you and your families a safe and very enjoyable Christmas and here’s to a great New Year!

Cllr Mark Cargill, Chair Greig Working Group
